Country masks from the ISIpedia project.
Country masks from the ISIpedia project. The masks are available as binary or fractional maps on a 0.5° x 0.5° latitude-longitude grid. More formats are available at the GitHub repository (Perette 2022, https://github.com/ISI-MIP/isipedia-countries).
Please refer to the README.md (https://github.com/ISI-MIP/isipedia-countries#readme) of the GitHub repository on how the country masks were created.

With version 2.4 we follow the versioning scheme used in the GitHub repository. For the changes, please refer to the release information in the GitHub repository.
April 26, 2023 (Version 2.5): In countrymasks_fractional.nc, a higher resolution fractional mask was used on 43 territories; see list of territories and new grid resolution at https://github.com/ISI-MIP/isipedia-countries/commit/4f00c84737ba5348b5d4ee241dc351e6c286645d.
April 27, 2023 (Version 2.6): Improved resolution in island states, extended archipelago with tiny islands and small territories attached to large, extended ones, or marginal areas of large territories. In this new version, 'polygon_to_fractional_mask' operates the same subgrid discretization but now operates on single polygon instead of the territory as a whole (often a multipolygon). Additionally, but probably without incidence, the subgrid parameter is set to have a maximum subdivision of 100x100 elements per gridcell (minimum of 10x10), indexed of previously unbounded (otherwise with the new approach we run into infinitely large subdivisions in some irregular territories with tiny marginal areas falling in a grid cell).
