The General Ocean Turbulence Model (GOTM) is a 'state-of-the-art' turbulence model for natural waters. Its is a full-fledged 1D water column model with a very extended configuration possibilities including coupling to a collection of bio-geochemical models.

Information for the model GOTM is provided for the simulation rounds shown in the tabs below. Click on the appropriate tab to get the information for the simulation round you are interested in.

Resolution
Spatial aggregation: lake
Temporal resolution of input data: climate variables: daily
Additional temporal resolution information: The model integrates on a hourly timestep.
Input data
Simulated atmospheric climate data sets used: HadGEM2-ES, GFDL-ESM2M, MIROC5
Observed atmospheric climate data sets used: EWEMBI
Climate variables: ta, hurs, uas, vas, rhs, psl, rsds, ps, pr
Additional information about input variables: Cloud cover was calculated using Martin and McCutcheon (1999). Daily short-wave radiation was computed using the method from the GOTM model.
Spin-up
Was a spin-up performed?: Yes
Spin-up design: Two years data was replicated and used to spin-up the model.
Extreme Events & Disturbances
Key challenges: Using daily resolution data as key disturbances occur at a sub-daily time step.
Calibration
Was the model calibrated?: Yes
Which years were used for calibration?: The years which we had observed lake temperature profiles.
Which dataset was used for calibration?: EWEMBI
