WAYS is a large scale distributed hydrological model that works on both the global and regional scales. Apart from the traditional hydrological models, WAYS improves the integrality of soil water simulation and integrates the separately derived root zone water storage in the model, thus can consider the water circulation in the entire root zone during the hydrological simulation. As a result, it can reflect the impacts of the natural spatial heterogeneity of the plant rooting system on soil water dynamics.
